A3, Ink and acrylic on paper
The eye wants to be pleased. maybe it’s just an unobtrusive background, maybe something that really has a form and wants to be seen. When you dream, do you dream only in black and white?
Or do you dream in color?
This is my tipi. In all stages: as a drawing, as a painting, sewn by myself and as memory in my photo album. I miss forest life and freedom. Let’s stay safe!
Text 06/2018 by Modest Tsiolkovsky
VITA SINE LITTERIS MORS EST is a catchy Latin expression (Seneca) meaning “life without science is death”.
Obviously, a gigantic, fundamentally unsettled number of experimental animals perished in the closets of vivisectors and in scientific laboratories with deaths of varying degrees of monstrosity.
And in this work, the author tells us: THEY СAME.
The emotional composition is based on the opposition of images from a children’s book – hares dancing around a real fluffy laboratory mouse and the seriousness of the message of the Latin expression, from which we easily come to the natural necessity of death of cute animate rabbits and a white mouse in the name of the science , which almost brought good luck, for example, or fell in love and built a nest.
Briefly speaking: “Life without science is death” – they tell us the rabbits.
Does this mean that death for the sake of science is life? No, of course death does not become life for the sake of science. Death with science is still death.
The author may have been influenced by Damien Hirst. ([maaia]: time to check who is that.. thanks for new #inspo)
Be that as it may – THEY CAME.
And this statement places work in a general religious cultural context, where death may be followed by an opportunity to act.
Thesis of the work makes the delivered message open. They came. What’s next?
VITA SINE LITTERIS MORS EST –
another part of the dream: the last thing what you are waiting for is to meet yourself in a nightmare. you look weird and certainly not up for the good, sleeping conscious self is too scared for an interaction, so you wake up
Another piece of that dream.
You enter the room and see the sun shining bright through the window. Dust particles in the air play in the light. You would like to take a breath on such a beautiful sunny day, so you open the window. You can see nothing. The darkness is so dense that you can’t even see your garden.
